Apply for Planning Permission

Download the planning application form and a checklist to help complete your application.

In general, you need to apply for planning permission for any development of land or property. This includes building, demolition, or alterations to land or buildings and the making of a material (i.e. significant) change of use of land or buildings.

Some works, however, do not need planning permission. These are called exempted development. To learn more, visit our page for checking if a development requires planning permission.

To help your planning application progress through Dublin City Council’s process, we strongly advise you to check all your documents carefully before submitting them. Please compare your application with the Applicant’s Guidance Checklist to ensure that every required item is included. Taking this step will greatly reduce the chance of your application being ruled invalid and will help avoid delays.
