Learn about filming in Dublin
Find out how the Film Office can assist with your film production.
The Film Office is part of Dublin City Council and our goal is to increase the number of productions filming in Dublin. We do this by providing a seamless transition from script to on-location filming.
Permits and administrative support
We work with location managers, producers, marketing executives and students to facilitate their productions in the city by providing high level administrative support. We can help you navigate Dublin City Council's services, which include permitting, parking, road closures, traffic control and much more.
We also offer advice on the likes of street furniture, waste management, environmental considerations, public transport and other film-related queries. We can liaise with government departments and industry organisations on your behalf as well.
We are a one stop shop for accessing filming locations and local authority services in Dublin.
Location advice
Dublin City Council manages Dublin’s public domain and handles permits for over 4,000 on-street locations, as well as many bridges, beaches, parks and interior civic properties.
Our diverse locations include period buildings, iconic landmarks, modern cityscapes and industrial backdrops. Productions can take advantage of Dublin's Georgian, Edwardian and Victorian architecture, as well as its historic castles, captivating coastline and urban settings.
It’s also worth noting that Dublin Airport is just 10km from the city centre, while Dublin Bay is even closer.
Who we assist
Each year, we handle hundreds of production applications for films, TV series, photoshoots, live events and everything in between. We assist small independent companies right through to multi-million euro productions.
We have facilitated critically acclaimed Irish dramas through to Oscar-winning movies. Past productions include the likes of Irish made Sing Street, Love Hate and Normal People. International productions like Netflix’s Wednesday, ABC Studios’ Quantico and Bollywood hit Ek Tha Tiger have all filmed in Dublin too.
We assist Irish and international productions of all sizes so whether you're part of a huge production or a student film crew, we can help.
