Noise We Don't Deal With
There are a number of noise sources that are either exempt from noise legislation enforced by Dublin City Council or may be dealt with by other sections in Dublin City Council.
The Air Pollution Monitoring & Noise Control Unit does not deal with complaints about the following noises
Aircraft noise
Aircraft noise is exempt from the Environmental Protection Agency Act 1992.
Traffic noise
The Air Pollution Monitoring & Noise Control Unit does not deal with complaints about traffic emissions. Public Transport emission queries are dealt with by An Gardaí Siochána at the Carriage Office, Dublin Castle, Dame St, Dublin 2. T: 01 666 9850.
Noise from roadworks
All road works must have a permit that is issued by the Roads and Traffic section of Dublin City Council. The times permitted vary depending on permit. Contact Roads and Traffic T: 01 222 2222.
Barking dogs
Complaints in relation to excessive barking should be made to the District Court. Please go to the Dog Control page to make a complaint.
Noise caused by public transport – LUAS / Dublin Bus

Noise from beer gardens/smoking areas
Complaints about noise from patrons in outdoor smoking areas or beer gardens are not dealt with by the Air Quality Monitoring & Noise Control Unit. A private action can be taken under Section 108 of the Environmental Protection Agency Act 1992.
Noise disturbance caused by individuals on a public thoroughfare
We do not deal with noise nuisance caused by individuals behaving in a loud or rowdy manner. When such instances occur on a public thoroughfare, a public order offence may be committed and should be dealt with by An Gardaí Síochána at your local Garda Station.
