Dublin City Archaeological Archive

The DCAA’s remit is to preserve records arising from archaeological investigations conducted in Dublin City by archaeologists working in the private sector, with special reference to excavations carried out before 2004.

The Archive is based at Dublin City Library and Archive in Pearse Street.

For further information, a handbook, the Dublin City Archaeological Guidelines, provides useful information for the preparation of records for submission to the Archive.

DCAA.01 Margaret Gowen & Co. Ltd Collection

Margaret Gowen and Company, formed in 1990, was developed as a multi-disciplinary archaeological and heritage consultancy company. It grew to operate on a countrywide basis as an integrated, multi functional organisation of more than 50 core staff by 2006 with environmental archaeology, human and animal osteology and full commercial laboratory. The company participated in the 2007 pilot study which led to establishment of the Dublin City Archaeological Archive. It entered voluntary liquidation in November 2011, and all of its archaeological archives relating to Dublin City excavations were transferred to the Dublin City Archaeological Archive.
