Grangegorman Strategic Development Zone
The Grangegorman Strategic Development Zone was established to transform the land around St. Brendan's Hospital into a major new health, education, community and urban quarter.
Grangegorman was designated as a Strategic Development Zone on 21 December 2010. Dublin City Council created the Grangegorman Planning Scheme on 25 July 2011. The planning scheme, including modifications, was approved by An Bord Pleanála on 2 May 2012.
This scheme aims to create “a vibrant, high-quality and legible urban quarter” with a strong sense of place by:
- Creating a new Technological University Dublin (TUD) campus.
- Delivering modern healthcare facilities for the HSE and North Dublin region.
- Providing community facilities, including childcare, services for older people and people with disabilities.
- Supporting commercial, retail, leisure, cultural, sports and recreation uses.
- Creating a connected urban quarter with new streets, parks, public spaces and transport links integrated into the surrounding city.
