Request a Taken in Charge Certificate

If you are buying or selling a property and want to clarify if roadways (including footpaths, laneways, and public lighting and surface water drainage) are under the remit of Dublin City Council, you can apply for at taken in charge certificate.

Once processed, people buying or selling a property can use the certificate to confirm that Dublin City Council is responsible for the roadways. It takes approximately three weeks to process these certificates, so please factor that into your timeline for the sale or purchase of property.

To obtain a taken in charge certificate, please write to the address below outlining the exact address of the property in question and supply a map. A fee of €63.00 applies. Please enclose a cheque made payable to Dublin City Council.

Dublin City Council has no role in relation to any other services or utilities, including water, wastewater (including foul sewers and combined drains/foul sewers), gas, electricity, telecommunications etc.
