Put a Skip on Your Road
You need to buy a permit to put a skip on a public road where parking restrictions apply.
A skip permit grants permission to position a skip on a public road where parking restrictions apply, ensuring skips are placed safely and do not cause obstruction or danger to road users, pedestrians, or cyclists. Parking restrictions include:
- Double yellow lines
- Paid parking zones, e.g. pay and display
- Clearways
You do not need a permit if you want to put a skip on a road with no parking restrictions – provided that the skip is placed in a safe manner and vehicular access is maintained (minimum of 3 metres in width retained). Similarly, a permit is not required to place a skip in a Loading Bay on Sundays and there is no charge for that day as Loading Bays operate between the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays.
Skip permit fees are €27.00 per day (or part thereof) per 5 metres of road/footpath space, except where the skip is placed in a Paid Parking area, the charge for the suspension of the meter in the relevant tariff zone applies:
- Very high-demand: €50.00 per 24 hours
- High-demand: €41.00 per 24 hours
- Medium-demand: €27.00 per 24 hours
- Low-demand: €19.00 per 24 hours
- Suburban Villages: €12.70 per 24 hours
For more information about parking zones, download a map of the paid parking zones in Dublin City.
Note: If the skip is placed in a zone with paid parking, the location of the skip and the number of parking bays it occupies may increase the fee you need to pay. Charges for paid parking areas coincide with relevant parking charges; if there is no parking charge on Sundays then there will be no charge to place a skip in the paid parking area either.
There are five types of skips available: Midi, Mini, Standard, Large and Roll-On Roll-Off. Most of these will fit into a 5-metre parking bay, with the exception of the Roll-On Roll-Off which is double the size and requires two parking bays at twice the cost of the above standard fees.
Amount of Notice Required
