About the Lord Mayor of Dublin
Councillor Daryl Barron was elected the 359th Lord Mayor of Dublin on 29th June 2026.
A member of Fianna Fáil, he was first elected to Dublin City Council in 2019 to represent the Donaghmede LEA and was re-elected in 2024.
With a theme ‘Our Dublin’, Lord Mayor, Daryl Barron will focus on the delivery of local initiatives across the city under three decisive executive pillars:
- A Safer and Cleaner Capital: Deploying an aggressive ‘Cleaner Dublin Initiative’ with expanded direct labour staff and dedicated Community Wardens, alongside a formal partnership with An Garda Síochána to rapidly scale town-centre policing and establish an assigned Transport Police unit.
- Tackling Dereliction, Vacancy, and the Housing Crisis: Setting up a pioneering Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in September 2026 to aggressively target, acquire, and remediate vacant urban properties, while doubling down on the direct-building of affordable housing on council sites.
- Empowering Youth and Honouring Communities: Launching the ‘Lord Mayor’s Community Leaders Awards’ across every electoral area to recognise grassroots sports and volunteer organisations, alongside a targeted rollout of multi-sport facilities and park upgrades.
He will use his term as Lord Mayor to position Dublin internationally, particularly during the period when Dublin takes centre stage for the Presidency of the Council of the European Union using it to drive economic resilience and strengthen local democracy.
He holds professional qualifications in Business Management from the National College of Ireland (2015) and a Qualified Financial Adviser (QFA) designation from the Institute of Bankers (2018). Prior to entering politics, he worked within the community sector of Dublin City Council and spent a decade within Bank of Ireland, specializing as a Mortgage Manager. He previously served as Chairperson of the Board of Directors for Beaumont Hospital (2021-22).
He lives in Donaghmede, Dublin with his wife, Orla and their infant son, Niall.
