Code of Conduct for Councillors
Dublin City Councillors are obliged to adhere to the Code of Conduct of Councillors 2019. The legislative basis for this Code is based on Part 15 the Local Government Act 2001 (as amended by the Local Government Act 2014); Ethics in Public Office Acts 1995 and 2001 and the Safety Health and Welfare Acts 2005. Councillors make an annual Ethics Declaration every year and commit that they have read and comply with the above code.
The objects of this code is to:
- Set out principles and standards of conduct, respect, dignity, equality and integrity for councillors, in performing their functions and in their relationship with each other, Council employees and with the public.
- Inform the public of the conduct it is entitled to expect from its elected representatives.
- Uphold public confidence in local government.
