Prostitution in Dublin in the Early 20th Century

Times & Dates

Saturday 30 August at 2.30pm

The problem of prostitution as a solution to poverty is not a new one but during the late 19th century and the early years of the 20th century the sex trade became associated with the major political upheavals that were ongoing in Ireland, not least in Dublin.

Dublin City Council Historian in Residence Dr Mary Muldowney will examine how consideration of prostitution in the city was blamed on the degeneracy of the British army, rather than a symptom of the destitution in which many of the citizens were forced to live.
