Dublin City Libraries Storyteller in Residence for Children announced

Dublin City Council are delighted to announce the identity of its new Dublin City Libraries Storyteller in Residence for Children.

Following a successful competition, Liz Loughnane has been appointed to the role and will start on Tuesday 3 February.  She will work across the city in Libraries and outreach locations to promote literacy by supporting children to engage with storytelling in all its forms.

Liz will encourage children to read and listen to stories around particular topics and to gather their own stories. She will also deliver training to library staff and work on short programmes with targeted groups. 

Liz has a wealth of resources at her disposal in Dublin City Libraries including books, ebooks and e-audiobooks, sensory toys, sensory cubbies etc.

A primary school teacher since 2013, working in both mainstream and special education classrooms. She is currently on a career break and has most recently worked with the Libraries Development Team in the LGMA on their national Story Streets project, helping to create activity packs and training for facilitators. Liz is the creator of personal blog @Today_We_Read on Instagram -  a space where she shares high quality children's literature. She has created and facilitated Department of Education approved courses for teachers about how to get the most out of their read aloud sessions in the classroom. She is a frequent reviewer for Inis Magazine and a Book Doctor with Children's Books Ireland. Liz is in her first year of the Doctorate in Education at Trinity College Dublin.
