Safe & Sound Campaign launched to promote responsible nightlife
Published on 13th November 2024
Dublin City Council has today launched the Safe & Sound Campaign as part of its Night-Time Economy strategy. This initiative is designed to reduce anti-social behaviour and foster respect across Dublin’s communities, encouraging both residents and visitors to enjoy the night-time economy responsibly especially in the oncoming busy festive period.
Ray O’Donoghue, Dublin’s Night-Time Economy Advisor, emphasised the importance of safety and community spirit in the city’s nightlife: “Safety is a key pillar in Dublin’s Night-Time Economy strategy, and the Safe & Sound Campaign will help to foster pride in our city and build a night-time environment where everyone feels safe, welcome, and encouraged to look out for one another.”
The campaign’s core message is simple yet impactful: enjoy your night out, but remain mindful and respectful of others and your surroundings. Whether dining, socialising, or attending events, Dubliners and visitors alike are encouraged to engage in nightlife in ways that support a culture of respect citywide.
The Safe & Sound Campaign supports several safety initiatives, including Bystander Training, developed by Night-Time Economy Solutions. This training empowers individuals to intervene safely in challenging situations. The campaign is also aligned with the Safe Gigs Programme, which aims to reduce harm in entertainment venues, ensuring they remain inclusive and safe spaces for all.
In collaboration with Think House, Dublin’s Night-Time Economy Advisor and other advisors nationwide, the campaign has been crafted to inspire a long-term culture of respect and safety within the night-time economy.
As the Safe & Sound Campaign rolls out in Dublin and other pilot areas, it is expected to become a model for other regions, helping to shape a vibrant, safe, and responsible national night-time economy.
