Renowned global advisor on Transport and Urban issues speaks in Dublin

Dublin City Council and Dublin Town are delighted to welcome renowned advisor on transport and urban issues Janette Sadik Khan to Dublin tomorrow morning to address city transportation stakeholders and the city’s business community.
The address will take place in the Bank of Ireland on College Green at 10am.
Janette Sadik Khan is a former commissioner of the New York City Department of Transportation (2007-2013) and currently works for Bloomberg Associates, a philanthropic consultancy established by former Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg that advises mayors around the world on how to improve the quality of life for their residents.
She has previously worked as deputy administrator of the Federal Transit Administration at the US Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C. under President Bill Clinton.
At a time when Dublin is transforming the management of its transport and traffic and is assessing the most productive use of road space, it is hard to imagine a more qualified and engaging speaker to address the related challenges and opportunities.
During her tenure she led the creation of Citi Bike and the conversion of approximately 180 acres of former New York City road space for use by bicycles and pedestrians, and another 44 for bus-only lanes.
The transportation department was sued over the placement of bike lanes and bike share racks. However, despite this, she fully delivered on her transformational plans. The bike lanes, Times Square plaza and bike share programmes that she introduced were consistently supported in citywide polls by majorities of New Yorkers.
She is the author of the book ‘Streetfight: Handbook for an Urban Revolution,’ based on her experience as commissioner and her new role as global transportation advisor.
