Conserving your Dublin Period House talks (Online and In-person from Tuesday 4th March until Tuesday 27th May 2025)

Dublin City Council and the Irish Georgian Society and have assembled a team of conservation experts to present a series of talks each Tuesday lunchtime during March, April and May 2024. The talks will provide an overview of the history and significance of Dublin’s period houses and practical advice on their conservation.
The individual talks will examine the history, significance and conservation of ironwork, roofs, windows, doors, staircases, lime, bricks, pointing and decorative plasterwork; as well as themed conservation lectures addressing conservation policy and legislation; tackling damp; sensitively extending historic buildings; implementing appropriate energy efficiency measures; advice on grant aid; disaster management; insurance; and advice on applying for grant aid.
The talks will be of particular interest to owners of houses listed as Protected Structures or located within Architectural Conservation Areas considering undertaking the restoration, retrofitting or extensions, or simply wishing to gain accurate and impartial best conservation advice for their home’s day-to-day maintenance.
Attendance at talk will be benefit built heritage professionals and practitioners with talks recognised as formal CPD by the Construction Industry Federation, Engineers Ireland, Irish Planning Institute, the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland and the Register of Heritage Contractors.

It is possible to book talks individually (€15 each) or book for the whole course for a discounted rate (€140). The talks take place in person at the City Assembly House as well as live online. For those unable to attend in person there will be an opportunity to ask questions through the Zoom Q&A chat function. In addition, a recording of the talks will be made available to subscribers for a two week period from date of issue.
