The Dodder Greenway: Herbert Park to Donnybrook Road

This section of the Dodder Greenway Scheme will provide walking and cycling facilities along 460 metres of the banks of the River Dodder from Herbert Park to Donnybrook Road. This phase is now complete.

Works are complete on this section of the Dodder Greenway. Dublin City Council wish to thank the public for their co-operation during construction.

This section of the greenway extends from Eglinton Terrace, beside the entrance to Herbert Park, to Donnybrook Road, beside Anglesey Bridge. This is a primary route in the National Transport Authority's Greater Dublin Area Cycle Network Plan and it was funded by the National Transport Authority and the Office of Public Works.

Works include signalised road crossings and greening measures. This section will provide:

  • High quality, continuous, safe and accessible protected cycling facilities to cater for all ages and abilities.
  • High quality greenway for walking, wheeling and cycling along the west bank of the River Dodder.
  • Improved pedestrian facilities, including upgraded footpaths and pedestrian crossings at Donnybrook Road.
  • Upgraded flood defences from Anglesey Bridge to Eglington Terrace.
  • Extensive upgrades to landscaping, including tree planting and other greening measures.

Learn More About This Section

The proposed route forms part of Dublin City Council’s provision of circa 7.2km of high quality greenway along the River Dodder from Sir John Rogerson’s Quay in Dublin 2 to Orwell Park in Dublin 14. This, in turn, is part of the larger 23km Dodder Valley Way that extends to the Dublin Mountains at Bohernabreena. The full Dodder Greenway will link in with the Dublin Docklands SDZ in providing north-south city linkage for pedestrians and cyclists.

The route also acts as a flood defence barrier and it is the final remaining section of flood defence to be constructed along this particular stretch of the River Dodder.
