Join Mary Muldowney in Ballymun Library on Saturday 10 May at 2.30pm for the talk The Port of Dublin, 1791-2000. The first Custom House was situated at Essex Quay and opened in 1707. It was replaced seventy years later because it was unsafe. The 'new' one opened in November 1791.
Mary's talk will cover the years from then until 2000, referring to the main developments along the Liffey quays in that period, including the IRA's attempt to burn down the Custom House in May 1921, during the War of Independence.
