History

14 Henrietta Street connects the history of urban life over 300 years to the stories of the people who called this place home.

Henrietta Street is the most intact collection of early to mid-18th century houses in Ireland. Work began on the street in the 1720s when the houses were built for some of Dublin’s wealthiest families. By 1911, over 850 people lived on the street. Over 100 lived at 14 Henrietta Street.

Refurbishment and Reopening

Dublin City Council began the process of acquiring 14 Henrietta Street in 2000 as a direct result of the Dublin City Heritage Plan 2002-2006 and the Henrietta Street conservation plan.

The purchase was completed in 2008 and was followed by a 10-year journey to conserve the house for future generations. The restoration was led and funded by Dublin City Council, with support from a Centenaries Capital Grant from the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

In 2018, 14 Henrietta Street opened its doors to the public. Access is available by guided tour only. This historic building is owned and conserved by Dublin City Council, and run by Dublin City Council Culture Company.

Take a Tour
