Dublin City Council Celebrates Kindness as Kindness Heroes Week 2026 Spreads Joy Across the City
Published on 12th March 2026
Dublin City Council and the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Ray McAdam invited all primary schools, secondary schools and clubs across the city to take part in Kindness Heroes Week 2026, a celebration encouraging kindness, empathy and positive actions in classrooms, playgrounds, clubs and communities.
Today, as part of the week, the Lord Mayor of Dublin and the CEO of Dublin Bus, Billy Hann, are travelling around the city on a Dublin Bus, visiting a number of schools taking part in the initiative and meeting pupils who are helping to spread kindness across Dublin.
This year, over 159 schools and clubs participated in Kindness Heroes Week, embracing the theme: “Doing good does you good – make kindness your superpower.”
To support the week’s activities, Dublin City Council provided each participating school and club with a Kindness Pack containing posters, certificates, badges, stickers, kindness charts and mindfulness activity books.
The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr Ray McAdam, said, "Kindness Heroes Week has shone a light on the very best of Dublin. Across our schools, young people have shown that kindness is not something small. It is powerful. It brings people in, builds confidence, lifts spirits and strengthens communities. A kind word, a helping hand, or the simple choice to include someone can change a person’s day and, at times, much more than that. What has been so inspiring this week is seeing Dublin’s young people lead with such compassion, imagination and heart. They are showing us the kind of city we want Dublin to be, open, caring and connected. My sincere thanks to every pupil, teacher and school community who made Kindness Heroes Week such a success."
Billy Hann, CEO, Dublin Bus said, “Dublin Bus is proud to support Dublin City Council’s Kindness Heroes Week and to play a small part in celebrating the positive impact young people have in their schools and communities every day. Kindness helps build stronger, safer and more connected communities, values that are at the heart of Dublin Bus. We are delighted to provide the bus for the Lord Mayor’s school visits and to help bring this important message directly to students across the city."
Throughout the week, Dublin City Council and the Lord Mayor visited schools and clubs to hear how students were promoting kindness, through welcoming gestures, supportive actions and efforts to brighten someone’s day.
Christine Lyons, Dublin City Comhairle na nÓg Co‑ordinator, said, “Our young people truly made kindness their superpower this week. From small thoughtful gestures to moments of support for classmates and friends, each act helped create a brighter atmosphere in schools and clubs. It’s encouraging to see how quickly kindness can spread when young people lead the way, and how their actions inspire others to do the same.”
Schools and clubs can also share stories or photos from Kindness Heroes Week by emailing [email protected].
