Lord Mayor opens Palmerston Park Tea-Rooms
Published on 9th April 2026
Dublin City Council is proud to announce the official opening of the new Palmerston Park Tea-Rooms, Rathgar.
They were opened this morning by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr Ray McAdam.
Operated by Copper & Straw, the tearooms have transformed a former depot building into an inviting café with indoor and outdoor seating, together with fully accessible public toilet facilities. This project represents a thoughtful re‑use of an underutilised space and is expected to become a popular destination for both local residents and park visitors.
Speaking at the opening, the Lord Mayor described the tearooms as part of Dublin City Council’s ongoing strategy to enhance the experience of city parks by providing high‑quality cafés and associated public facilities.
“Tearooms such as this encourage people to spend more time in our parks as places to meet, relax and enjoy their surroundings,” said the Lord Mayor. “Similar facilities in St Anne’s Park, Herbert Park, St Patrick’s Park and Harold’s Cross Park have already proven their value. Another tearoom is currently under construction in Merrion Square Park and is due to open later in 2026.”
The Lord Mayor acknowledged the contribution of the Dublin City Parks team for their support during the construction phase.
A special acknowledgement was made to John Dorman of Dorman Architects for a sensitive design that complements the historic setting of Palmerston Park. Construction was carried out by Tolmac Construction under the direction of Mick Culligan and Michael O’Keeffe.
Dublin City Council would like to thank Stephen Kennedy and the Copper & Straw team and wish them every success in operating the new tearoom.
