Dublin City Council Invites Communities to Go Green at Finglas’ First Greening Festival

Published on 11th May 2026

Dublin City Council’s Finglas Area Office Community Development and Public Domain teams are delighted to present the first Finglas Greening Festival, taking place on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, from 4.00pm to 7.00pm, in the green area adjacent to Finglas Area Office and Finglas Sports and Fitness Centre, Mellowes Road, Finglas, Dublin 11.

The Finglas Greening Festival is being held in celebration of Climate Action Week, Bike Week and Biodiversity Week, and will highlight the incredible work being carried out across the Finglas area in environmental protection, sustainability and the circular economy. The event will also showcase how small, practical changes in how we relate to food, waste, water, energy, and skills and resource sharing can collectively make a significant positive impact on our communities.

A wide range of organisations and community groups will participate on the day, including Eat the Streets, CODEMA, Dr. Compost, Finglas Tidy Towns, local Community Gardens, the Men’s Shed, and a number of local circular economy community enterprises. Information stands will promote opportunities for community involvement in environmental and area clean‑up projects, alongside details of Dublin City Council’s cleansing and recycling programmes available to the public.

The festival will also feature a programme of free workshops, including composting information sessions, growing sustainable plants for biodiversity, small garden vegetable planting, and furniture upcycling. Plants will be available to purchase, and attendees can enjoy raffles, freebies and giveaways to support more sustainable homes and communities. A festival picnic area will be available, with refreshments provided.

Speaking ahead of the event, the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Ray McAdam, said, “The Finglas Greening Festival is a wonderful example of how local communities, voluntary groups and Dublin City Council can work together to promote climate action and biodiversity at a very local level. Events like this empower people with the knowledge and confidence to make small changes that add up to real, positive impact for our city. I would encourage everyone to come along, take part, and celebrate the strong community spirit in Finglas.”

Councillor Keith Connolly, Chair of the North West Area Committee, added, “The Finglas Greening Festival is a fantastic initiative that showcases the great work happening across our community in sustainability and biodiversity. It’s a great opportunity for people to learn simple, practical ways to make their homes and neighbourhoods greener. I want to commend all involved in organising the event and would encourage everyone to come along and support what promises to be a really positive day for Finglas.”

The Finglas Greening Festival is free and open to all.
