You may apply for a permit to enter this restricted area for the following purposes only:

  • To deliver or collect goods from a premises or construction site you must apply for a Load/Unload Permit.
  • To travel through the restricted area when you are not permitted to use the Port Tunnel (e.g. wide-load or restricted goods), you can apply for a Transit Permit.

Load/Unload Permit

If you need to deliver to or collect from a premises or a construction site within the restricted area of Dublin city, you can apply for a Load/Unload permit. This permit allows you to travel in the restricted area during restricted hours using a HGV with 5+ axles.

Load/unload permits can only be issued against premises that have been registered with Dublin City Council.

Daily permits cost €10.00 each (one permit allows up to 5 deliveries/collections).

Transit Permit

A Transit Permit can only be issued to vehicles that are not permitted to use the Port Tunnel for the following reasons:

  • Vehicles over 2.6 metres in width
  • Vehicles carrying restricted goods, e.g. dangerous chemicals. Please see the Dangerous Goods Regulations pdf for a list of restricted items

You cannot choose your own route through the restricted zone. HGVs using a Transit Permit must travel along the East Wall Road and Alfie Byrne Road only. No other route is permitted. There is no charge for a Transit Permit.
