Book clubs in DCL

Book clubs are a great way to establish a sense of community with other readers. You can spend hours chatting with people who love the same authors as you, or debating about the merits of a particular character/plot.

  • Either way it's a more affordable way to have an active social life. 
  • It encourages you to read more.
  • You can make new friends not just the fictional ones/or on social media. 
  • It broadens your horizons.
  • It Improves your writing skills.

Book club bouncer

This is our Book Club page. There are plenty of options to suit most bibliophiles. 

Most of the following book clubs are adult unless otherwise stated and meet in the branch. Dates may change so please contact the library in advance and the same goes for titles being read. 

Ballyfermot Library

  • Tuesday Book Club meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 6.30pm. For Adults. 
    This book club is now full. Contact [email protected] to join the waiting list
  • Thursday Book Club meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6.30pm. For Adults. 
    This book club is accepting new members – Contact [email protected] to join. 

Ballyfermot Library Junior Book club meets last Monday of every month at 3.30pm.

Ballymun Library

Please note that most of the following book clubs take a break for the month of  July. 

  • Evening Book Club meets on the last Monday of the month at 6.30pm.
  • The Ballymun Murder Book Club meets on the last Thursday of the month at 6.30pm. Members read crime fiction.
  • Science Fiction and Fantasy Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 6.30pm. 

Baby Book Club, suitable for new born to 2 year olds, meets on Monday mornings from 10.00am to 10.45am (during term time - break during July and August). Baby Book Club includes stories, activities and toys.

Toddler Book Club, suitable for 2 year olds to pre-school, meets on Thursday mornings from 10.00am to 10.45am (during term time - break during July and August). Toddler Book Club includes stories, activities and toys.

Cabra Library

  • First Wednesday meets first Wednesday of the month at 7pm.  
  • Points of View book club meets every second Wednesday of the month at 12pm. 

Central Library

  • Page Turners meets first Monday of the month from 5.45-6.45pm. 
  • Science Fiction meets second Tuesday of the month from 5.30-6.30pm.  The current genre is ‘space opera’ as opposed to ‘hard science’ science fiction or fantasy. 
  • Short Stories Book Club meets third Tuesday of every month at 5:45pm.

Charleville Mall Library 

  • Royal Canal Book Club is organised with Phibsboro Library. Last Wednesday of each Month at 7pm via Zoom. 

Coolock Library

  • Coolock Library Book Club meets on the last Tuesday of every month at 7pm. 
    The Morning Book Club meets on the last Wednesday of every month at 11am.

Dolphin's Barn Library

  • The Grand Canal Book Club meets on the second Monday of every month at 6.30pm.  
  • The Dolphin's Barn Book Club meets on the last Thursday of the month at 11am. 

Donaghmede Library

  • The Thursday Book Club meets every Thursday from 2 - 3.30pm. They read one book a month but gather weekly to discuss. 
  • Easy Readers Book Club meets the last Thursday of the month from 6.30 -7.45pm. 

Drumcondra Library

Six affiliated book clubs that do not meet in the library. The Irish Revolution Book Club meets fortnightly. 

Finglas Library 

Please note that all Finglas Library book clubs take a break for  July and August. 

  • Adult Book Club is fully subscribed, please contact the library to be added to the waiting list. This book club meets at 11am on the first Tuesday of every month E: [email protected]  (Book Clubs will take a break during July and August)
  • Junior Book Club meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 3.45pm. For children aged 9 to 12 years old. 
  • Toddler Book Group run by Barnardos meets on Thursdays and Fridays during term-time. The two morning sessions are fully subscribed presently, please contact Barnardos or the library for more details or to register interest. E: [email protected] 

Marino Library

Marino Library book club meets once a month on a Saturday afternoon at 3pm. Please contact Marino Library first to check the date 01 222 8399 / [email protected]   

Pearse Street Library

  • Thursday Morning Book Club meets on the first Thursday of every month at 11am. 

Phibsboro Library

The Wednesday Readers Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 6.30pm. New Members are welcome. 

Raheny Library 

Raheny Library Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of every month from 11 to 12.30pm. Spaces are limited so booking is essential. Copies of the book available in the library. 

The Brainy Bees Book Club meets on the last Tuesday of every month from 3.15pm to 4pm for ages 10-12 years old only.

Rathmines Library

Rathmines Library Wednesday Book Club meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 2.45pm. All welcome. 

Walkinstown Library

Walkinstown Readers meet every second Thursday at 2.30pm.
