Dublin Climate Action Week in Dublin City Council Libraries

Dublin Climate Action Week will take place from the 11th - 17th of May 2026 and is organised by the four Dublin Local Authorities, the Dublin Climate Action Regional Office (CARO) and Dublin’s Energy Agency, Codema.
Dublin Climate Action Weeks is taking place between the 11th - 17th May, offering a dedicated period to focus on and promote sustainability and environmental consciousness across the city.
Events in Libraries
Change Clothes will be doing workshops to encourage members of the public to learn the skills to extend the life of their clothes!
There will also be a beeswax candle making workshop in Cabra Library for members of the public to learn all about the magic of bees and their role in nature.

The Library in the Community team will have the library bus at PedalPower in Eamonn Ceannt Park on Sunday May 10th as part of National Bike Week.

Using the library is good for the environment as it encourages a sharing economy through borrowing and returning books. Additionally, we offer the following services!
Home Energy Saving Kits
As a Dublin City Council Libraries member, you can borrow a Home Energy Saving Kit.
The items in the toolkit help to address three areas of energy usage in your home - heating, hot water and electricity consumption. With this kit, the public can identify common issues in their homes that might be driving up electricity bills.
Gardening at home with help from the Library
You can borrow books from your local library to help you learn about sustainable gardening, whether that's growing your own vegetables at home or planting and encouraging biodiversity in your back garden.
You can also find a range of gardening magazines through the BorrowBox app. BorrowBox allows library users to access FREE magazines and newspapers to read on their devices with their library card.

The Ballymun Seed Library
Ballymun Library has the Ballymun Seed Library. This offers members of the public the opportunity to gets seeds for planting at home for free.
The Seed Library encourages an exchange systems in which the public takes seeds from the library while leaving seeds they no longer need for other gardeners to use.

Meet new people and learn about self-sustainability and growing your own plants and food.
