Almost €2 Million in Funding Available for Dublin City Community Climate Action Projects

Published on 15th October 2025

Dublin City Council is delighted to announce the launch of Phase 2 of the Community Climate Action Programme, supported by a €1,938,000 allocation from the Government of Ireland. This funding will enable community groups, sports clubs, and not-for-profit organisations across the city to deliver impactful, locally led climate action projects.

The programme officially opens on Tuesday, 21st October, and invites community groups to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) via the Dublin City Council Citizen Hub. The EOI process is designed to help groups shape strong proposals with the support of the Council’s Community Climate Action Officer, Dean Eaton, ahead of the full application deadline on Tuesday, 16th December.

What the Programme Supports

The Community Climate Action Programme funds projects that:

  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
  • Increase climate resilience
  • Support the transition to a low-carbon economy

Projects are encouraged to address multiple themes:

  1. Community Energy
  2. Sustainable Travel
  3. Food and Waste
  4. Shopping and Recycling (Circular Economy)
  5. Local Climate and Environmental Action (Nature-Based Solutions)

Funding Categories

Grants are available in three tiers:

  • Small Projects: Up to €20,000
  • Medium Projects: €20,000–€50,000
  • Large Projects: €50,000–€100,000

All grants offer 100% funding, subject to eligibility and project quality. This is a competitive process, and proposals that integrate multiple themes and demonstrate strong community engagement are more likely to succeed.

Successes from Phase 1 (2024–2025)

In the first phase, 50 community groups across Dublin City delivered projects that:

  • Installed solar panels, LED lighting, and building insulation
  • Built bicycle infrastructure and water refill stations
  • Created wildlife habitats, ponds, and tree planting schemes
  • Reduced flood risk through rainwater harvesting and rain gardens
