Dublin City Council is proud to take part in this year’s Seachtain na Gaeilge, which runs from March 1st to 17th.

This Irish language festival, which began in 1902, is the largest celebration of our native language and culture in Ireland and around the world every year.

Native speakers, learners and those who only have a cúpla focal are encouraged to get involved and take part in some of the entertaining and fun events which have been organised for all types of interests and age groups.

Dublin City Council has organised 14 public events this year.

They include a drama workshop, a guided tour of the Hugh Lane Gallery and sketching, guided walks from Richmond Barracks, céilí and a pop-up book club.

The Council’s Irish Officer Andrea Brown said, “Many people don’t realise this but Seachtain na Gaeilge has been around for more than 120 years. It’s a great chance to celebrate the Irish language and it doesn’t matter if you’re fluent or if you have Irish you learned in school all those years ago and haven’t had the chance to use it since. It’s like any other skill, just needs a bit of practice to bring it out!”
