Dublin City Council ‘Opera in the Open’ Returns for Summer 2025!

Dublin City Council is proud to present the return of ‘Opera in the Open,’ now in its 26th year, bringing free lunchtime opera performances to the heart of the city this August.

Taking place at the Civic Offices Amphitheatre, Wood Quay, performances will run every Thursday from 1pm to 2pm, starting on 7th August and continuing for four consecutive weeks. 

Each show features a lively, abridged version of a classic opera, narrated in English and perfect for newcomers and opera fans alike Admission is completely free, and no booking is required – just come along and enjoy! 

“Opera in the Open has become one of the great annual traditions supported by Dublin City Council,” said Ray Yeates, City Arts Officer. “We invite everyone to experience the joy of opera in this unique and accessible format right in the heart of the city.” 

2025 Programme:

  • 7th August – Carmen (Bizet)
  • 14th August – Così Fan Tutte (Mozart)
  • 21st August – Acis and Galatea (Handel)
  • 28th August – Donizetti Gala

Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets, cushions or camping chairs for comfort. The venue is easily accessible and includes designated space for wheelchair users.
