Dublin City Council would like to announce that a new Welfare Area will be set up in the city-centre on Fosters Place, College Green, to provide essential support to Christmas revellers and night-time economy users.

Whether you’ve had one too many Christmas drinks or need first aid, the Welfare Area will be available to offer immediate assistance. With trained medics and security staff on hand, the area will serve as a safe space for anyone in need of help.

This initiative, piloted by Dublin City Council and supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, aims to ensure the safety and well-being of people enjoying the festive season.

Ray O'Donoghue, Dublin’sNight-Time Economy Advisor, explains:
“The pilot of the Welfare Area is a vital part of our efforts to create a safer, more enjoyable night-time experience in Dublin. As the city becomes a hub of festive activity, it’s essential that we provide patrons with a secure space to seek support. This initiative reflects our commitment to the safety and enjoyment of both citizens and visitors.”

Welfare Area Dates (11:00 PM – 4:00 AM):

  • Friday, December 20th
  • Saturday, December 21st
  • Sunday, December 22nd

This pilot is part of a long-term project aimed at establishing a semi-permanent Welfare Area in Dublin’s city-centre, ensuring that help is always available for those in need during the night-time economy.
