Dublin City Council would like to announce that it wants to establish a Working Group to identify sites and potential funding for a new Arts Centre in the North Central Area of the city.

The Area includes Kilbarrack, Raheny, Belmayne, Clongriffin, Donaghmede, Coolock, Clontarf and Fairview.

This proposal is at the beginning stage and it is intended to hold a ‘Town Hall’ style meeting at Coolock Library on March 26th from 6.30pm to 8pm.

The purpose of the meeting is to hear from everyone, including artists, residents and organisations, who are interested in the project. The Council would like to discuss vision, mission, operation, location and funding for the new centre.

“This is the start of a journey, which will take several years to complete,” said City Arts Officer Ray Yeates. “However, when the centre is up and running it will have a hugely beneficial impact on the arts locally and will build on recent and ongoing activity by artists and communities in the area.”

Anyone hoping to attend the meeting in Coolock Library can register for the event at the link below.

This initiative builds on programmes such as Creative Places Darndale and Faoin Spéir in Rockfield funded by the Arts Council and Dublin City Council and the studios spaces for Artists at Artane Place that were supported by the Area Office and Arts Office of Dublin City Council. The diverse population of this area of Dublin contains may who are interested in having buildings for the Arts and a special study by Dublin City Council has mapped the deficits in cultural infrastructure that are now beginning to be addressed.
