Planning permission granted for St. Andrew’s Court, Dublin 2
Published on 4th March 2025
Planning permission for the redevelopment of 33 social homes at St. Andrew’s Court has been granted by Dublin City Council’s Elected Members.
Originally, the three-storey St. Andrew’s Court flats were completed in the 1970s, with 14 flats. The detenanting of the flats began in 2016 and the gates were eventually sealed by Dublin City Council in 2022.
The project, part of the Council’s Estate Regeneration Programme, will involve the demolition of the existing block and the construction of a new, high-quality, social housing, providing 12 no. 1 bed homes, 16 no. 2 bed homes and 5 no. 3 bed homes, with 8 of the new homes designed in accordance with Universal Design Principles to be suitable for older people/mobility impaired people. The proposal also includes a landscaped courtyard, providing a green play and seating area for residents to relax and socialize.
Lord Mayor of Dublin, Emma Blain said:
“We are very pleased to have been able to grant planning permission for this important housing project. The regeneration of St. Andrew’s Court will make a real difference to the lives of local residents and we look forward to starting work on the project. This development will not only provide modern housing but also enhance the surrounding area for the benefit of everyone.”
This project is funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, will be delivered in one phase and it is envisaged that construction will begin in Q2 2026, with full project completion and delivery of the new homes in just under two years, by end of Q1 2028.
Assistant Chief Executive Mick Mulhern added:
“Achieving Part 8 planning approval is a major milestone in the regeneration of St Andrews Court. Dublin City Council looks forward to progressing the project to onsite stage and delivering the 33 new homes. The mix of homes types in the proposed development allows for the creation of a sustainable community that will breathe new life into the former housing site. With planning permission granted we can now move forward with the detailed design and tendering for a contractor.”
