Firefighting and Emergency Response Teams
Our full-time and retained Firefighters respond to fires, road traffic collisions and specialist rescue incidents, including flooding, chemical incidents, collapsed buildings, water rescue and other emergencies.
The role of our Firefighters is varied and some of their main duties include:
- Promoting community fire safety.
- Resolving fire and rescue emergencies.
- Resolving emergency ambulance cases.
- Developing local awareness.
- Promoting health and safety.
- Personal development.
All of our full-time Firefighters are trained to paramedic standard and continuously rotate between ambulance and fire duties. Over 80 are trained at an advanced paramedic level and all of our part-time Firefighters are trained to an emergency first responder level.

The East Regional Communication Centre
At its headquarters on Townsend Street in Dublin city centre, Dublin Fire Brigade operates a dedicated call centre where all fire, rescue and emergency calls for Dublin, as well as most of Leinster, are answered by its Emergency Service Controllers.
From here, our fire crews are mobilised to respond. The role of the Emergency Service Controller is to get emergency appliances, officers and other supporting services to emergency incidents. They also provide support to fire crews and callers on the phone.
The Fire Prevention Unit
Dublin Fire Brigade also has a dedicated section for fire prevention. Our Fire Prevention Officers advise on fire safety standards for events, as well as for new and existing buildings, to ensure compliance with fire safety standards and building regulations.
Dublin Fire Brigade issues 2,000 Fire Safety Certificates every year and has various powers of inspection and enforcement under the Fire Services Act.
Dublin Fire Brigade is also committed to promoting community fire safety. As part of our fire prevention work, Dublin Fire Brigade has developed various fire safety programmes to involve communities in the prevention of fires. By working closely with local communities, schools and other agencies, we aim to make the public aware of vital safety information that will help keep them and their families safe.
Support Staff
We have a number of key support functions which contribute to an effective fire and rescue service, including Administration, Communications, Finance, Logistics, Human Resources and our Training Centre.
