General Data Protection Regulation – Privacy Notice, Motor Tax

Dublin City Council requires customers’ to provide certain personal data in order to carry out our legislative and administrative functions for Motor Tax on behalf of Department of Transport, Tourism & Sport (DTTAS).

Your personal data may be exchanged with the agencies listed below under the remit of DTTAS in accordance with law.

  • An Garda Síochána – criminal investigations
  • State Agencies – civil & criminal investigations e.g. non- payment of toll fees
  • Solicitors – civil & criminal investigations e.g. road traffic accidents
  • Local Authorities – civil & criminal investigations e.g. litter fines

Motor Tax Online -  www.motortax.ie

Motor Tax Online is a secure service provided by the Department of Transport which allows motor tax customers to tax their vehicles online. You must have a PIN number to avail of this service. This number appears on your renewal form [RF100B]. If you are not in receipt of a renewal your PIN is the last 6 digits of your Vehicle Registration Certificate.

You must contact the Department of Transport for any online-related queries.

Motor Tax Office

Motor Tax is collected by Dublin City Council on behalf of the Department Transport and caters for vehicles registered in Dublin City and County. The Motor Tax Office is closed to the public and operates a postal service. There is a 5-7 day turnaround on Motor Tax postal applications. 

An appointment service for urgent applications is available – please contact 01 222 8000 for an appointment.
