Drone Regulation in Ireland

Drone use in Ireland is subject to national, European Union, and international aviation regulations to ensure safety, security, and the protection of people and property.
The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) is the national competent authority responsible for regulating civil drones (also known as unmanned aircraft systems or UAS) in Ireland. It is responsible for oversight and enforcement of the regulation,  operator registration, remote pilot certification, operational authorisations, and airspace restrictions.
All drone operators and organisations are legally required to comply with all relevant regulations before flying a drone in Ireland. Different rules apply depending on the type of drone, how it is being used, and where it is being operated.
Dublin City Council does not regulate airspace or issue permissions to fly drones. Regulatory oversight, approvals, and enforcement sit with the Irish Aviation Authority.
For official guidance, registration, and up-to-date regulatory requirements, all drone users must refer to the IAA:

Dublin City Council’s Drone Unit works in collaboration with the IAA and other national partners to support the safe, lawful, and responsible integration of drones into urban environments.
