Ranelagh Village Interim Scheme

The first stage of the Sandyford Clonskeagh to Charlemont Street Active Travel Scheme provides 650 metres of interim facilities in Ranelagh. This stage is complete.

The permanent Sandyford Clonskeagh to Charlemont Street (SC2C) Active Travel Scheme will take some time to plan and design, so Dublin City Council has provided 650 metres of interim measures in Ranelagh Village. These measures run from Woodstock Gardens to the Ranelagh Luas Bridge.

These interim measures improved accessibility and provided a safer environment for cycling for all ages and abilities. The scheme used light segregation measures, such as flexible kerbs and bollards, to provide temporary protection to cyclists from vehicle traffic.

This stage of the scheme has delivered:

  • 650 metres of segregated cycling facilities through Ranelagh Village.
  • A bus stop upgrade with an island bus stop layout.
  • A reduction in traffic lane width, reallocating road space to pedestrians and cyclists.
  • The installation of traffic management measures, such as new traffic signs and road markings.
  • The extinguishment and reorganisation of some parking bays and ancillary works.

Along Ranelagh Road, the existing loading bay in the village has been maintained. All existing disabled parking facilities have also been retained.
