The Vision
Learn more about the vision we have for College Green.
Grow College Green is about revitalising the historic heart of Dublin – transforming it into a world-class public space where people can relax, explore, celebrate, and connect with each other and with the city’s rich heritage.
It’s a space that will be greener, more open, and more welcoming – a place where history and modern life meet.
This project is part of Dublin City Council’s wider commitment to building a city that works for everyone – residents, workers, students, businesses, and visitors alike. It builds on our policies and strategies for:
- Sustainability and climate resilience
- Public realm improvement
- Active travel and accessibility
- Cultural and community engagement
The vision for the College Green Public Realm Project is built around three core pillars.
1. A Liveable & Vibrant City
Creating a vibrant and safe space that is animated and flexible, supporting retail, space activation, and social interaction.
The completed project will provide:
- A lively public space for everyday uses and events
- A meeting point for Dubliners and visitors
- A space to learn and to celebrate the history of the city
- A space to play

2. A Connected & Accessible City
A pedestrian priority space that is safe, inclusive, and enjoyable for all. Improving permeability for pedestrians at the heart of the city, fostering a vibrant and welcoming public realm.
The completed project will feature:
- Accessibility for all
- Pedestrian friendly space with limited street clutter
- Cycle-friendly routes
- Restricted vehicle access
- Improved connectivity with public transport and surrounding areas

3. A Resilient & Healthy City
The design will maximise green space and biodiversity to support both human well-being and the environment, integrating climate adaptation measures. Improving air quality and providing quiet space for people to escape to. The city’s architectural and historical heritage will be enhanced through sustainable design and best conservation practice, including material reuse.
The completed project will:
- Prioritise sustainability
- Introduce new trees and planting
- Increase biodiversity and encompass nature-based solutions
- Improve air quality
- Enhance storm-water management and wind-mitigation measures
