Duke Street, Anne Street South Public Realm Project
Dublin City Council, through contractor Circet Networks, commenced public realm works in June 2025. The project will include Duke Street, Anne Street South, Lemon Street, Duke Lane Lower, Duke Lane Upper and Anne’s Lane in Dublin 2.
These important pedestrian routes link south Dublin’s primary retail street, Grafton Street, with the city's south Georgian area via Dawson Street. This project aims to re-energise the area by using high quality design and materials. The works will create a destination to visit and linger in, rather than a place to simply pass through.
To do this, the project will introduce and enhance placemaking features, such as trees, seating and outdoor dining facilities. These will nurture social interactions and biodiversity to create more vibrant streets. The project will also create more pedestrian-friendly spaces and provide wider footpaths and an accessible experience for all users. The area will be transformed for the public, while also supporting and promoting economic growth in the area.
Public Realm Upgrades
Key features of these improvement works include:
- The renewal of all surface materials, including 2,500 square metres of granite paving.
- Widened footpaths and the creation of new dwell zones, with 10 new public benches.
- Upgrades to existing outdoor dining areas.
- Soft landscaping features, including trees and plants.
- Cycle parking and cycle stands.
- Improved street lighting
- New street furniture, including interactive play features for children.
- Two new water bottle filling stations.

108 buildings directly access these streets. This project will cover approximately 5,300 square metres.
Traffic Management Plans
Pedestrian and emergency services access will be maintained throughout the duration of the works. Access to residences and local businesses will be maintained at all times.
Temporary traffic management will be required to facilitate the works. This will be done with the safety of pedestrians and other road users remaining paramount throughout construction. Traffic Management Plans will be published for each changed layout.
Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Dublin City Council apologises for any inconvenience caused and seeks the public’s understanding and co-operation during the upgrades.
