ComMUniversity programme wins Aontas Star Award

The Aontas Star Award was presented to the ComMUniversity programme! Coolock Library and Walkinstown Library play a significant role in facilitating the programme.
Congratulations to Senior Librarians Noreen Herlihy and Adrienne Gilmartin, also their respective teams, for all the great work. The Awards recognise inspiring adult, community, and further education initiatives across Ireland.
The programme is managed by NUI, Maynooth and the Northside/South City Partnerships. The Aontas Star Awards are the culmination of the annual Aontas Adult Learners' Festival.

Communiversity offers people the chance to immerse themselves in third level subjects in the comfort of their local library. Lecturers from Maynooth University deliver their expertise on a wide range of subjects including History, Sociology, Local History, Economics.
There's no written work or assignments to complete, just a willingness to listen and to engage. It's FREE to attend; access to books and other materials is provided by the library.
This year in Coolock Library, the series launched with a taster session on Tues 6 Feb. This was attended by 65 people. The course ran for 17 weeks on Tuesday evenings (5.30pm to 7.30pm). Each module was four weeks in duration. An average of 33 people attend each week.
A Graduation Ceremony is held in Maynooth University in June.
Ther courses on offer in Coolock Library were as follows: Criminology, Local History, Career Guidance session with Paul Hayes from the NP, Sociology, and Psychology.

Aontas, the National Adult Learning Organisation, is a long-established (1969) non- governmental membership organisation that promotes the value of adult learning and advocates for the rights of all adults to quality learning across the tertiary education system.
Aontas has a unique position as the national voice of adult learning and believes that building the profile and status of adult and community education is a priority and has developed a communications strategy to support this work in order to ensure our message is clear and reaches the widest possible audience.
