Do you work with people with dementia or with learning disabilities? If you do, we have an exciting new product available in two of our libraries which you will want to know about.The Magic Table (or ‘Tovertafel’ in Dutch) is an award-winning innovation from the Netherlands, and it uses specially designed technology to help people with mid-to-late stage dementia and also adults with learning disabilities. It consists of a series of colourful and fun interactive light games projected onto the surface of a table which respond to hand and arm movements, and which stimulate physical and cognitive activity as well as encouraging social interaction. Thirteen separate events with multiple performances of each will be delivered for children by professional artists in our Creative Hubs during July and August. Events are FREE but registration is required.
With over 45+ events to choose from, including several family friendly events, there will be opportunities for parents and children to join in the fun together. Dublin City Libraries Summer Programme for Children includes events for children of all ages, with a selection of ASD friendly events, along with events as Gaeilge.
My first week here was an adjustment week, during which I mostly learnt about the background of the Dublin Council, the Dublin City Library and Archives, and my primary duties. I visited Mansion House, City Hall, Hugh Lane Gallery, and 14 Henrietta Street in the second week, guided by my internship manager, to learn more about Dublin's urban history.
