The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Emma Blain, today attended ‘Messiah on the Street’, an annual open-air concert commemorating the 283rd anniversary of the premiere of Handel’s Messiah on Fishamble Street.

Supported by Dublin City Council, the concert is an annual event, brilliantly performed by Our Lady's Choral Society and conducted by Pronsias Ó Duinn with support by the Handelian Orchestra.

With over 150 performers involved, Fishamble Street was transformed with an enthusiastic group of Dubliners and tourists enjoying the interactive performance of Handel's most renowned work.

Speaking at the event, the Lord Mayor said, “From the very first notes of Handel’s Messiah in 1742 to today’s celebrations, Dublin continues to be a beacon of artistic excellence and cultural pride. Each year, this special celebration reminds us of Dublin’s lasting place on the world’s cultural stage, where the past and present sing in perfect harmony.”

Messiah, one of Handel’s most famous compositions, was first performed in Dublin in 1742 at Neal’s Musick Hall on Fishamble Street. Messiah went on to achieve worldwide acclaim, and the annual ‘Messiah on the Street’ concert has been held in Dublin since 1992. Now in its 33rd year, the event offers a unique opportunity to experience this historic masterpiece in its original location.
