Grafton Street Quarter Public Realm Improvement Plan

Published in 2014, this plan proposed a series of improvements to the streets and public spaces near Grafton Street. Many of the proposals have since been implemented and some are still underway.

The Grafton Street Quarter covers the area bordered by Dawson Street to the east, South Great George's Street to the west and from College Green to St. Stephen's Green. It is at the heart of the Dublin's economic, social and cultural life.

Dublin City Council advocates for public spaces that are welcoming, comfortable, unique and easy for all to use, regardless of age or ability. This plan sets out Dublin City Council's vision and design principles for enhancing the public realm in this area. It will inform public realm projects that will transform this part of the city.

Many of these improvement works have already been completed, including:

  • Grafton Street.
  • Johnson’s Court.
  • Wicklow Street (at the eastern end).
  • Harry Street, Balfe Street, Chatham Street, Chatham Lane, and Swanyard.
  • Clarendon Street.
  • Clarendon Row.

The Duke Street, Anne Street South Public Realm Project also commenced in 2025 and improvements for College Green are currently being planned.
