You can check if you are on the Register by visiting www.voter.ie or www.checktheregister.ie or in the Offices of Dublin City Council.

You may not be able to find yourself on voter.ie if your name, address or Eircode is entered incorrectly. Please contact Franchise ([email protected] / tel: 222 5010) if you have registered to vote and cannot find yourself online.

At present if your details do not appear on the register and you are not included at another address you may apply for inclusion to the Register of Electors. There are two options to do this.

  1. Registering online through www.voter.ie using a verified MyGovId account.
  2. Completing an ERF1 application form – new elector, change of address, coming of age.

If you have become an Irish Citizen and have never been on the Register of Electors you must fill in an ERF1 form if you wish to be included in the Register of Electors.  However, if you are already on the Register of Electors and have become an Irish Citizen you need to update your details either by completing the relevant form (ERF1) or online at www.voter.ie (if you have a verified myGov ID account).  This will enable you to vote in all elections and referenda.

    You can register online by

    • Dublin Area only @ www.voter.ie - You must have a verified mygovID.ie account to be able to avail of the online facility.
    • Outside of Dublin Area @ www.checktheregister.ie

You can continue to register up to 14 days (excluding Sundays, Good Friday or public holidays) before an election / referendum. After that time the register is closed and you will be unable to vote in that electoral event.

No, unfortunately you are not eligible for a postal vote.

A person whose occupation is likely to prevent them from voting at their local polling station on election day can apply for a postal vote.

An elector whose name is entered in the postal voters list may only vote by post.  They will be turned away from the polling station if they turn up to vote there, the same will apply to special voters.

The polling information card is only an information card that tells you the date and time of polling and the location of your polling station.  You can vote as long as you are on the Register of Electors and have photographic ID (i.e. Passport, Drivers Licence, Bus Pass or Work ID) with you.

You can only vote at a polling station that has been assigned to you. Polling stations are decided by the Returning Officer, according to the polling district boundaries. It is normally a local School or Hall in your area.  Polling Scheme circulated prior to polling day.  Your polling station is identified on your polling information card.

Yes you can vote even if you have no fixed abode.  You will need to provide the address of where you spend most of your time e.g. a hostel, a friend’s house etc.  You will also need to provide an address at where to receive correspondence.
