2.2.5 Retail Strategy

The retail strategy for Dublin city is to consolidate the city centre retail core as the premier retail destination in the State, to promote an upper tier of retail development in the KDCs and a lower tier of district centres to cater for surrounding communities. Below this tier, the strategy provides for daily shopping needs and local services of a residential community in neighbourhood centres. This approach reflects the settlement strategy for the city and is consistent with the Retail Strategy for the Greater Dublin Area 2008 – 2016 (see Appendix 3).
