I’m always on the lookout for books that celebrate individuality and inclusivity, and Loud! by Rose Robbins is a shining example. This vibrant picture book introduces us to Abigail, a young girl who doesn’t quite fit into the quiet, orderly classroom environment, but finds her place through the transformative power of music.

Loud Book Cover

What makes the story so engaging is its gentle, empathetic portrayal of neurodiversity. While Abigail’s challenges with focus and impulse control may resonate with many children (and parents), Robbins avoids labels, instead offering a universal message about the importance of being understood. With bold illustrations and dynamic visual storytelling, the book mirrors Abigail’s emotional landscape, making it both accessible and deeply relatable for young readers.

I love this book for its message of empowerment and the celebration of children who may experience the world a little differently. Miss Butler, the compassionate music teacher, is a standout character—an example of the huge role educators can play when they choose empathy over discipline.

Perfect for reading aloud at home or in class, Loud! is a joyful, resonant reminder that every child has a unique voice—and that sometimes, being loud is exactly what the world needs. Perfect for children aged 4-8.

Pick up a copy at your local library or reserve online.
