We're delighted to introduce See and Learn education kits developed by Down Syndrome Education International into circulation.

The resources are suitable for children from 6 months old upwards. They guide learners through through different stages of language, encouraging participation and building confidence and self-esteem.

See and Learn kits now available for borrowing from Dublin City Libraries include Saying Words 1, 2 and 3, Combining Sounds, Phrases 1, 2 and 3, and First Counting.

The kits are available for borrowing for a three-week loan period. They must be picked up from, and returned to, a Dublin City Library branch.

The kits can be reserved on our online catalogue.

See and Learn Saying Words 1, 2 and 3

Saying Words 1, 2 and 3 are designed to support speech development, guiding learners to work in small steps towards clearer speech production. In these kits, materials including manuals, sensory items and flashcards assist with teaching the meaning of spoken words and encourages children to practice saying new words. The exercises allow children to learn the meanings of words and how to use the words to communicate.

Down Syndrome: education

See and Learn Combining Sounds

See and Learn Combining Sounds is the second step in the See and Learn speech programme. This kit is designed to teach young children to hear and produce speech sounds (phonemes), to hear the differences between sounds (discrimination), to develop their speech sound system (phonology), and to produce clear speech. Combining Sounds can also help children to identify sounds in words (phonological awareness) which is important for reading.

See and Learn Phrases 1, 2 and 3

See and Learn Phrases introduces children with Down Syndrome to early sight words to support the development of language skills. Each kit contains a manual, word cards, picture cards, word picture cards, phrase cards, phrase-picture cards and mini-books. Using vocabulary from the See and Learn series, the phrases kits introduce sight word reading by simple matching, selecting and naming activities.

See and Learn First Counting

See and Learn First Counting is designed to teach children with Down Syndrome and other learning challenges to count to 10 and to understand important concepts about the number system. These concepts include recognising numerals, linking quantities to numbers and calculating with numbers up to 10. This kit includes a manual, flash cards and counting discs.

See and Learn Resource sets are available for borrowing at branches below.
