Advertising Board Licence
You need a licence if you want to place an advertising board (or A-board) on a public road or pavement in the Dublin City Council area.
An advertising board is a large display surface used to promote products, services, events or messages to the public. To place an advertising board on the public road or footpath, you must have an Advertising Board Licence granted by Dublin City Council.
Size and Use
The advertising structure must be no larger than standard A1 size (637mm x 1100mm x 800 mm). This licence does not permit the use of any other structure, advertising, storage or display of goods at the location. The structure can only be used to advertise the business of the licensee.
Please note that some locations are not permitted to have Advertising Boards outside their premises. These include Protected Structures and locations within the city's Architectural Conservation Areas.
The Application Process
Step 1
Contact us providing the exact location of the proposed advertising board. We will organise a site visit to check if the pavement has capacity to accommodate the proposed structure.
Step 2
Download and fill out an application form. Send it to us by email or post with required enclosures. You must also send us a non-refundable application fee of €100.
Step 3
Dublin City Council aims to issue a decision on a licence application within 8 weeks. If this is not possible, or if further information is required, we will be in touch.
Advertising Board Fees
You will have to pay a non-refundable application fee of €100. If your application is approved, you will have to pay an annual licence fee of €630.
