A new website telling the story of the North Strand Bombing. The website contains photographs of the aftermath of the bombing and the stories of people who were there. In the weeks after the bombing, Dublin Corporation commissioned a local photographer, Henry McCrea, to take photographs of the bomb damage as evidence for the assessment of insurance claims. These striking photographs reveal the devastation that was wrecked on the area leaving scars for many years to come.
A newly commissioned short film showing the “then and now” streetscape where the bombs fell on the 31st May 1941.

On the 80th anniversary of the bombing of the North Strand, Mary Muldowney and historian Catherine Holmes will tell the story of the bombing of North Strand on the night of 30/31 May 1941. They will give the background to the tragedy and outline its aftermath, referring in particular to the memories and photographs featured in the new Dublin City Library & Archive’s website that commemorates an event that traumatised several generations and changed the shape of one of the city's oldest neighbourhoods.
