As the authority in charge of roads, Dublin City Council maintains the road, street and public domain network to the highest international standards whilst maintaining the integrity of the city’s unique heritage. Road Maintenance Services (RMS) prioritises works to ensure best-value maintenance to the highest safety standards for the city’s road, footpath and cycling network .

RMS manages and improves the city’s street furniture with the intention of enhancing people’s experience of the city.It also manages road openings in order to minimise disruption to the city. Its other functions include:

  • Pothole repairs and repairs to a public road or pavement
  • Carriageway resurfacing programme and weed control
  • Footway minor works maintenance programme
  • Winter maintenance service
  • Modify a footpath to allow vehicular access
  • Road opening licence
  • Street furniture licence
  • Case, rack or shelf licence
  • Out-of-hours services, eg: tree felling, road traffic collisions
