Interning at Dublin City Library and Archives
Published on 22nd June 2023
Someone said, life is a journey, and that’s true, working at Dublin City Library and Archives is one of the short but beautiful journeys of my life.
My internship was from March 15th to April 26th at the Dublin City Library and Archives. I worked from 10am to 4pm every Wednesday, including a 20 minute coffee and 45 minute lunch break. The schedule was very reasonable as sufficient rest time is beneficial for improving work efficiency.
My first week was an adjustment week, during which I mostly learnt about the background of the Dublin Council, the Dublin City Library and Archives, and my primary duties.
I visited Mansion House, City Hall, Hugh Lane Gallery, and 14 Henrietta Street in the second week, guided by my internship manager, to learn more about Dublin's urban history.
I compiled a list of Irish Female Writers of Children's Books during the third week. Ireland is home to a large number of great female authors of children's books, unfortunately, people are gradually forgetting about them.
I set up my first exhibition EVER in the fourth week, and although it's very small and has just two display cases - I was pretty excited about it!
In the fifth week, I created a special rainbow selection of L. T. Meade because her book covers are so colourful and beautiful. They deserve to be lovingly displayed!
I created biographies of Irish female children's book authors in the sixth week which may be utilised for display cases as well as Twitter and Instagram.
The last week, I mainly prepared for my presentation.
Although the time is short, I have a lot of wonderful memories. I really enjoyed working with all my colleagues.
Thanks for their friendly welcome, patient help, and warm encouragement. If there is any chance, I want to continue my beautiful life journey with Dublin City Library and Archives!
