12 Dublin City Council Parks Receive Green Flag Award
Published on 11th November 2024
Dublin City Council is delighted to announce that 12 of its parks have received the international Green Flag Award for 2024, up from 9 last year.
The 2024 Green Flag Awards were announced by An Taisce Environmental Education.
The 12 Green Flag Awards demonstrates the commitment of the City Council to the care of its parks and diligence of its City Council staff to maintain horticultural standards, together with the passion of local communities whose engagement is key to a successful park.
The Green Flag Award is the international quality benchmark for the public green space sector - now operating in 19 countries around the world. Running for over 25 years, the programme uses eight key criteria, with an emphasis on environmental management, for its assessment. All sites implement a management framework, and then undergo an annual inspection conducted by qualified judges.
The Lord Mayor of Dublin James Geoghegan said, “Parks play such an important role in the life of our city so I am delighted to see all the hard work of the Council’s Parks, Biodiversity & Landscapes Services Division paying off. I want to congratulate all the men and women working there who do such a great job maintaining a network of quality parks for the needs of all ages, interests and abilities in every community throughout the city.”
The 2024 Green Flag Parks are:
- Herbert Park
- Ringsend Park
