300 Dublin City Council staff clean-up before, during and after St Patrick’s Festival

Dublin City Council would like to announce its pride in the 300 staff from its Waste Management Team who have been working throughout the weekend to clean the city before, during and after the St Patrick’s Festival.
The festival weekend is always a great chance to showcase our city to people at home and abroad and once again our staff have delivered a first class street-cleaning service, with large crowds enjoying the city over the past few days.
The preparatory work conducted by the City Council for the St Patrick’s Festival takes months of planning relating to key issues such as street closures, additional litter bins and learnings from previous St. Patricks Festival events.
135 Dublin City Council bin barrels were placed into pre-arranged locations in the city-centre on Saturday to be emptied as required.
Staff began work at 6am on Sunday morning to ensure the city’s streets were ready for the big event! As soon as the parade finished, roadsweepers moved in. A bin lorry was also placed on Aston Quay to service the bin barrels in and around Temple Bar.
A dedicated night time crew commenced work at 10pm last night and finished at 6am this morning, providing a night time waste management service on our city streets during this busy holiday weekend. A new crew then commenced work at 6am this morning, collecting the bin barrels. Two large roadsweepers went directly to Temple Bar and a third was deployed to Dame St, Georges St, Camden St and Harcourt St. They were supported by other sweeping machines as required.
The afternoon shift will begin at 2pm today and focus on maintaining the highest standard of cleaning during the Bank Holiday, servicing all litter bins regularly and mechanically sweeping roads and pavements.
Well done to all our hard working Waste Management staff on their busiest weekend of the year.
