Closure of Dublin City Council facilities following Status Red warning for Dublin
Published on 23rd January 2025
In light of Met Éireann’s Status Red wind warning for tomorrow, 24th January, Dublin City Council’s Crisis Management Team met yesterday and again this afternoon.
The following decisions were taken:
Services closed to the public tomorrow:
•All Dublin City Council offices
•All Dublin City Council Sports, Leisure and Community Centres
•All Dublin City Council Libraries
•All Dublin City Council Parks
•All Dublin City Council Bring Centres and Recycling Centres
•The Hugh Lane Gallery
•Richmond Barracks in Inchicore
•14 Henrietta St
•City Hall
•The Lab on Foley St
•Motor Tax office
We hope to re-open all these services from Saturday morning, following an assessment.
All Dublin City Council staff, apart from essential emergency staff, are advised to work from home tomorrow.
The Emergency Fire and Ambulance service will continue to operate, and in the event of an emergency please dial 999/112.
The Chief Executive of Dublin City Council Richard Shakespeare said, “This is a Status Red warning so we are advising the public to please heed all safety messages and exercise extreme caution. You should avoid unnecessary travel, prepare for possible power outages and check on elderly neighbours if it is safe to do so. We are also advising people to tie up any outside furniture that could blow away in high winds and create a hazard.”
The Dublin Regional Homeless Executive Freephone number is 1800 707 707. It is open from 10am until 10pm and we would encourage anyone that requires emergency accommodation to make contact. We would also ask the public to advise us if they come across someone sleeping rough either via our website; or by calling 01 872 0185; or via our free app 'Dublin City Rough Sleeper Alerts' which is available on both Apple & Android Platforms.
Members of the public are advised that City Council services will continue to be provided by phone, email and online.
The public are advised to be wary of any hanging branches or unstable trees in parks, open space and streets until crews have been able to complete any urgent maintenance as a result of the high winds. The weekend markets in St. Anne’s Park and Herbert Park are cancelled as are Parkruns. Pitches are also called off for the weekend.
Information updates will be provided via our website www.dublincity.ie and through our social media channels.
Dublin City Council would like to assure both the public and the business community that if, as expected there is damage to the city by the forecasted winds, we will have clean-up teams ready to go when it is safe to do so.
